Nadine’s Story

Hi, I’m Nadine, devoted mother, loving partner and founder and creator of Kiss My Parcel.
That’s me in the picture at the prestigious Top Drawer Exhibition in Olympia, London,
just weeks after I launched Kiss My Parcel.
If I’m being honest, my smile was a little forced, as we literally finished the stand just
moments before the doors opened.

But how did we go from a small business to a stand at a major London exhibition

When I was in school, I learnt about the care packages given to the people suffering and
close to starvation in the wake of World War II. The kindness in them was touching, and it
gave me an idea.
From then on, I would create my own Care Packages for my family and friends whenever
they needed a lift. From back-toschool to birthdays to bereavements, I found appropriate
gifts and filled boxes to make them happy.

When my brother went to university, I wanted to send him monthly packages full of useful
products for student life, so I decided to try and recreate an old-style care package. I started
getting boxes and filling them with items like pasta, rice, vegetable peelers, food clips… You
name it; I boxed it.
His packages were a hit with his roommates, who would all eagerly await the next one. For
me, this worked out so much better than giving him money, which I knew from experience
would mostly be spent at the student union bar!
When I heard a friend started a diet, I packed a box with goodies that would help to
encourage her and keep her motivated.
I kept on giving these packages religiously to my friends and family.
A few years later, my beloved uncle received the tragic news that he was terminally ill with
cancer. He was immediately admitted into hospital for treatment. It was difficult, and we
weren’t sure how to deal with the news.

My answer was…to make him smile!

This was the spark for the idea of a Hospital Healing Care Package. It was full to the brim
with products and treats to make his stay in the hospital slightly more bearable. From healthy
snacks to earphones and puzzle books, he had it all, and the other patients on his ward
loved it too.
When I handed it to him, I remember him sitting in his hospital bed, excitedly throwing
shredded paper everywhere to unwrap all his gifts.
After he had finished unveiling everything, he picked up the box with tears in his eyes and
kissed it…

And so, Kiss My Parcel was born.

We’ve come a long way since my days of frantically searching the house for an old
cardboard box big enough to contain a specific amount of items, but the feedback I get from
recipients of my care packages makes the hard work worthwhile.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and I hope one of our packages will soon put
a smile on the face of someone you love.
